  • —Co-founded Linear Capital from a blank slate. Backed by some of the most recognized investors and institutions in the region. Some of the portfolio companies went public in the US and Hong Kong. The fund has invested in several Bay Area founders.
  • —Built 5 categories from zero at Walmart China.
  • —Built private label from scratch at Metro Cash & Carry China (Europe's Costco).

Leading at scale

  • —Inside Tmall, ran the Soft-goods Division to $6B in GMV.
  • —Inside JD, grew a division from 4 categories to 13, and from $40M to $300M.

Helping other founders do both

  • —Worked alongside several small companies through the parts that decide whether they make it — mapping the growth path, picking the right product to bet on, hiring the right early team, building the sales channels, hitting the number, closing the round, and scaling without breaking.

He knows the early-stage pain because he's lived all of it: no budget, no extra hands, sales that have to hit, customers that can't churn, cash that has to last, costs you can't grow into, profit you have to show, and a hundred decisions a week — most of them on you.

Outside of work, Michael has dedicated 23 years to fitness, and is a long-time photographer and skier.

  • —Co-founded TheP.AI, an autonomous AI video engine for e-commerce.

Building decisions that can't be wrong

  • —At Instacart, architected the platform that screens every shopper on the system. Compressed a 45-minute decision into 3.
  • —Replaced 3,000+ lines of hard-coded rules with a JSON rules engine that learns. Cut deployment from 8 hours to under 2 minutes.
  • —Built and ran the compliance workflows for CCPA and Quebec — the parts of the law that don't forgive shortcuts.

Building at scale

  • —Tripled the Instacart shopper base during the COVID surge — without losing accuracy on a single screening.
  • —At Yelp, built the notification platform that ships ~20M push notifications a week on Python, Spark, Kafka, and Cassandra.

He knows the early-stage engineering pain because he's built through it: no senior engineer to ask, no on-call team to back you up, features that have to ship by Friday, bugs you can't afford to chase, compliance that has to pass without a lawyer, infrastructure that has to scale without a team, and a hundred build-vs-buy decisions a week — most of them on you.

Outside of work, Brad has dedicated 10 years to fitness, 6 years to skiing, and is a connoisseur of oil painting.
